MUSIC CARE© treatment can enable a 62% reduction in midazolam sedation during coronary angiography under local anesthesia. Pr. Joël Belmin
Joël Belmin is Professor of Geriatric Medicine at Hôpital Charles Foix (Paris IV Sorbonne). His achievements have been recognized by numerous scientific publications, notably in the field of non-medicinal interventions. He has obtained funding from several different sources in the context of his clinical research, and his team has received numerous awards and research grants.
Dr. Florence Bonté
After qualifying as a doctor at Université Paris VI, Florence Bonté specialized in geriatric medicine and psychiatry. Her research focuses on non-medicinal therapies, notably based on art and music. She often presents her work at national and international conferences concerning the role of art and music therapy in managing patients with Alzheimer’s and related diseases.
Dr. Luc Brun
After training in anesthesiology and intensive care, Dr. Luc Brun became closely involved in developing non-medicinal treatments for therapeutic use. He currently leads the Pain Evaluation and Treatment Unit at Gaston-Bourret Hospital in Nouméa (New Caledonia). He has been using Music Care for fifteen years as a therapy for his patients. He is also the author of numerous publications that are considered as references by other clinicians.
Dr. Kevin Charras
Kevin holds a PhD in psychology and has been studying Alzheimer’s disease for more than fifteen years. He has forged a reputation as an expert in psychosocial and environmental interventions and their evaluation, and has written several articles on the subject in national and international scientific journals. He is a regular speaker at conferences on these themes.
Patricia Cimerman
Patricia works as a nurse and clinical research assistant at Hôpital Trousseau in Paris. Since 2002, she has also been attached to the National Center for Pain Control Resources (CNRD) where she is responsible for providing support to care teams in all specialties so that they can improve the daily management of pain. She recommends a combination of medicinal and non-medicinal care for all age groups; children, adults and the elderly.
Dr. Patrick Ginies
Dr. Patrick Giniès heads the Psychosomatic Pain and Functional Disease Department at Montpellier University Hospital. He initiated the first controlled, randomized studies to evaluate music in the treatment of pain. He uses the Music Care method daily to treat patients with chronic pain. Dr. Giniès is Honorary President of the French College of Pain Physicians and manages the French Society for the Study and Treatment of Pain (SFETD) in the Occitanie Region.
Dr. Gilles Guerrier
Gilles Guerrier is an anesthesiologist in the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Department at Hôpital Cochin in Paris. He has participated in the compilation of numerous articles that are considered to be references among clinicians and has been applying the Music Care method for around ten years.
Edourard de Hennezel
Edouard de Hennezel initially trained as a lawyer and now specializes in institutional communication. Interested in the challenges posed by ageing, disability and end of life care, he has launched several initiatives designed to raise the awareness of public and private sector decision-makers to these issues. In 2016, he set up the Enterprise & Salaried Caregivers Award to encourage employers to take on workers who are caregivers to sick, disabled or dependent relatives.
Pr. Samir Jaber
Professor Samil Jeber coordinates the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Department at Montpellier University Hospital and teaches at the Montpellier Faculty of Medicine. He is also a member of the Scientific Board of the French Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, and is on the boards of several specialized journals. He has conducted clinical research and published on subjects such as anesthesia and sedation.
Pr. Serge Marchand
Serge Marchand has been Vice-President, Scientific Affairs at Génome Québec since January 2019, having previously been Scientific Director of the Quebec Health Research Fund (FRQS) (2017-2019). Holding a PhD in neurological sciences, he was Scientific Director of the Research Center at Sherbrooke University Hospital from 2008 to 2013. He has written several articles, books and book chapters on the neurophysiology of pain, with particular focus on the neurophysiological mechanisms responsible for the development and persistence of chronic pain.
Dr. Emmanuelle Vuillaume Cerdan
Dr. Emmanuelle Vuillaume Cerdan is a physician at the Centre Hospital Sud in St. Pierre, Reunion Island, where she works in the Center for Pain Evaluation and Treatment. She specializes in treating pain using non-medicinal methods such as acupuncture or music therapy, has published her findings in numerous scientific and medical journals.
Pr. Mathieu Roy
Professor of Psychology at McGill University in Montreal, his research focuses on the cerebral representation of pain. He is also seeking to understand the neurophysiological mechanisms that underpin several non-pharmacological analgesic interventions such as physical exercise, distraction, rewards and music. He has demonstrated that music-related analgesia is dependent on the emotions induced by music, which can even exert an impact on the spinal processes transmitting the nociceptive influx. His results appear regularly in top-ranking scientific journals.
Pr. Isabelle Peretz
This Quebec-based research scientist specializes in the “musical brain” and the neuro-cognition of music, an area of neurological study which she founded. She was the first to propose the idea that the brain contains a specialized cortical network that can perceive and enjoy music. In 2005, she co-founded the international laboratory for research on the brain, music and sound, the BRAMS (BRAin, Music and Sound). The journal Science considered that her work has “fundamentally changed our understanding of how the brain analyzes and processes music.
Pr. Patrice Queneau
Professor Patrice Queneau is a French physician who is Honorary Dean of the Saint-Etienne Faculty of Medicine and has been a member of the French Academy of Medicine since 2003. He chairs the association of those who were previously junior doctors at Lyon Civil Hospitals. He has written numerous books and articles on medication incidents and how to prevent them, the management of patients in pain, medical humanism and the practical training of physicians.
Pr. Pierre Rainville
Pierre Ranville is Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at Montreal University and directs the Laboratory for the Neuro-Psycho-Physiology of Pain (LaNeP3) at the Centre de Recherche de l’Institut Universitaire de Gériatrie de Montréal (CRIUGM). Between 2014 and 2018, he was a government research scientist employed by the Quebec Health Research Fund. He also works for the Quebec Research Fund and publishes regularly in prestigious journals such as Science on the treatment of pain. His work focuses in particular on the brain mechanisms that govern the transmission and interpretation of pain signals.
Pr. Jacques Touchon
A professor of neurology who specializes in Alzheimer’s disease, Jacques Touchon has published numerous books (on the neurophysiology of memories and Alzheimer’s disease, etc.) and collaborated in many specialized reviews on the subject. He was previously Director of the Behavioral and Degenerative Neurology Unit at Montpellier University Hospital. Professor Jacques Touchon has been using the Music Care method with his patients for more than fifteen years. With Stéphane Guétin, he set up a University Diploma on Art Therapy and Music Therapy at the Montpellier Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Marion Trousselard
Currently Deputy Director of the Neurosciences and Cognitive Sciences Department at the French Armed Forces Biomedical Research Institute (IRBA), Marion Trousselard’s work focuses on the psychophysiology of Self, the peri- and post-trauma (neuro)-inflammatory response and recovery/repair mechanisms (sleep, vagal system, resilience). Her work is carried out in a context of the need to maintain and enrich civilian and military collaboration in order to ensure coordinated and integrated biomedical research on the scientific and societal challenges posed by stress and post-traumatic stress disorders.
Pr. Fred Schwartz
Professor Fred Schwartz worked as an anesthesiologist for some forty years at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, USA. He is the author of several works on listening to music in neonatal intensive care units and the influence of sound and music on brain development. He has also written on how music can lower stress levels.
Dr. Marguerite d'Ussel
Dr. d’Ussel trained as an emergency physician but now specializes in pain treatment and has been Chair of the Pain Control Committee (CLUD) at the Paris-Saint-Joseph Group of Hospitals since 2012. She has also been running the chronic pain clinic at Saint-Joseph since it was set up in 2014.
